Athens firefighter David Kress, right, shops for toys with Christian Shoemaker, 10, left, during Shop with a Firefighter Thursday afternoon at Wal-Mart on Hwy 72 in Athens. The event paired children with an Athens firefighter to shop for the holidays. Each child was given $100, half to spend on necessities and half on toys. Fire Chief Tony Kirk said the funds are raised by firefighters throughout the year at various events and the families are chosen through conversations with county schools. This year and last year combined helped children in every school in Limestone County, Kirk said.
