Athens gets grant for Farmers Market upgrade

ATHENS — Athens will soon receive a $20,000 grant to improve the Farmers Market, including adding a community garden.

City of Athens Grant Coordinator Holly Hollman said the $20,000 will be used to pay for raised beds for a community garden, sidewalk improvements, an irrigation windmill, landscaping, gardening equipment and garden maintenance. Town Creek will supply water to the community garden through an irrigation windmill.
