Sparkman High School graduate Monica Johnson, 18, front center, was presented a $1,000 scholarship Saturday by the Round Island Creek Missionary Baptist Association. Monica’s parents, Raleigh Johnson Jr., back left, and Petra Johnson, front left, attended the presentation, along with last year’s winner, Maurice Mull, back right, his mother, Myrtle Mull, front right, and RICMBA scholarship committee chair Ruby Betts, back center. Johnson plans to attend Tuskeegee University, and Mull is a rising sophomore at the University of North Alabama. Not pictured is Maurice’s father, Kevin Mull.
