EMA: 2 new storm shelters open due to severe weather

Extra safe rooms available at Ardmore Park Ave., Ark of Promise

— The Limestone County EMA has announced the opening of two new storm shelters due to severe weather in this week’s forecast.

The community safe rooms are located at 29910 Park Avenue in Ardmore and 15199 Browns Ferry Road in Athens.

EMA officials said residents should be aware these shelters were recently installed and are still in the finishing stages.

The Ardmore Park Avenue safe room has electricity but water and restroom facilities are unavailable.

The Ark of Promise safe room, which is located next to Ark of Promise Church, does not have electricity, water or restroom facilities available.

Both safe rooms have unfinished parking areas and there are no steps at the shelter entrances.

Residents using these shelters are advised to bring flashlights and chairs, along with someone to assist them upon entering the shelter, said EMA spokeswoman Daphne Ellison in a media release.
