Two Reid community neighbors, who admitted to Limestone County investigators they dislike each other, had a fight Saturday in which one was struck in the head with a board.
Charles Smith, 57, of 17390 Harwell Road, Athens, was treated in the emergency room of Athens-Limestone Hospital for a blow to the head.
Limestone County Investigator Brad Curnutt said Monday that a call came into the Limestone 911 Center from a man who said he had just knocked his neighbor out. Curnutt said a county deputy was dispatched to the scene.
“The victim and the offender, who live across the street from one another, got into an argument and they met in the road,” Curnutt said. “The victim had a fishing pole in his hand and the offender was carrying a 2-by-4. The offender struck the other man over the left side of the head with the 2-by-4.
“The two sides told our deputy that they don’t get along,” Curnutt said. “At this point, we don’t know what they were arguing about.”
Curnutt said deputies determined the victim was intoxicated at the time of the assault.
No arrest has been made but the investigation is continuing, Curnutt said.
