ccc — A recap of Friday night’s prep action:
Colbert Heights 13
Tanner set a school record for points scored in another region blowout. The record-setting point total could have been worse. The Rattlers led at halftime 56-0. Led by Hayden Stephens’ four touchdowns, Tanner cruised to its 32nd consecutive regular season win. The two touchdowns conceded were against Tanner reserves.
East Limestone 24
East Limestone played mistake-free football against Athens in the Indians’ third straight victory in the series. Athens out-gained East 284 – 201 in total yardage, but two turnovers inside their own 40-yard line turned out to be the difference in the game. Torren Haley and Jevon Turner combined for more than 100 yards and each scored a touchdown in the win.
J.O. Johnson 30
Ardmore’s streak of 300-yard rushing games ended in Huntsville Friday as Johnson stacked the box to hold Ardmore to 41 yards on the ground. It was a two-point game entering the break before Johnson scored 22 unanswered second-half points to pull away.
West Limestone 7
West Limestone dropped its third game of the season on the road to a much-improved Wilson team. The Wildcats carried a two-game winning streak into Friday’s region contest. In order to make the playoffs, West will need to beat its remaining region opponents — Rogers, Priceville and Haleyville.
Madison Academy 62
Elkmont suffered its worse loss of the season at home to Madison Academy. The Red Devils have played two ranked teams already this season and still have Lauderdale County, Deshler and Wilson on the slate. Elkmont’s best chance to pick up its second win of the season will be at Clements Friday.
Westminster Christian 45
Clements suffered another lopsided loss as Westminster Christian picked up another win in its first season playing in 3A. The Colts have been outscored 45-13 on average this season, but have scored in three consecutive games. Clements will host Elkmont Friday.
By the numbers:
Tanner broke a school record for points scored in one game in its 69-13 victory over Colbert Heights.
Regular season games won by Tanner this season. The Rattlers’ are tied with Dadeville for the state record.
Only two teams in Limestone County have winning records six weeks into the season. Ardmore (4-2) and Tanner (6-0) could be the only schools to make a playoff run this season unless East and West Limestone can pull off upsets this week.
