Fast takes: recapping Friday night's prep football action

ccc — A recap of Friday night’s prep action:

Tanner 69

Colbert Heights 13

Tanner set a school record for points scored in another region blowout. The record-setting point total could have been worse. The Rattlers led at halftime 56-0. Led by Hayden Stephens’ four touchdowns, Tanner cruised to its 32nd consecutive regular season win. The two touchdowns conceded were against Tanner reserves.

East Limestone 24

Athens 12

East Limestone played mistake-free football against Athens in the Indians’ third straight victory in the series. Athens out-gained East 284 – 201 in total yardage, but two turnovers inside their own 40-yard line turned out to be the difference in the game. Torren Haley and Jevon Turner combined for more than 100 yards and each scored a touchdown in the win.

J.O. Johnson 30

Ardmore 6

Ardmore’s streak of 300-yard rushing games ended in Huntsville Friday as Johnson stacked the box to hold Ardmore to 41 yards on the ground. It was a two-point game entering the break before Johnson scored 22 unanswered second-half points to pull away.

Wilson 41

West Limestone 7

West Limestone dropped its third game of the season on the road to a much-improved Wilson team. The Wildcats carried a two-game winning streak into Friday’s region contest. In order to make the playoffs, West will need to beat its remaining region opponents — Rogers,  Priceville and Haleyville.

Madison Academy 62

Elkmont 0

Elkmont suffered its worse loss of the season at home to Madison Academy. The Red Devils have played two ranked teams already this season and still have Lauderdale County, Deshler and Wilson on the slate.  Elkmont’s best chance to pick up its second win of the season will be at Clements Friday.

Westminster Christian 45

Clements 7

Clements suffered another lopsided loss as Westminster Christian picked up another win in its first season playing in 3A. The Colts have been outscored 45-13 on average this season, but have scored in three consecutive games. Clements will host Elkmont Friday.

  • Local athletes lead North to soccer sweep

    East Limestone’s Dilan Sayer scored the opening goal and was named MVP of the boys game in a 3-0 win while Jordan Runion scored her team’s opening goal in a 3-1 for the girls.

  • Davidson helps North tie

    She was one of only three North players to record a hit in the opener, which ended 3-3.
    Pitching duties were shared by Lexington’s Jessie Butler, Central-Florence’s Ashley Irons and Hartselle’s Jada Hayes along with eventual North MVP Maddie Moore of Winfield.

  • Tedford, Potts take on the South in All-Star hoops game

    Stace Tedford has had a busy year at Athens. After leading the basketball team to a school-record 24 consecutive wins and regional finals appearance, he jumped straight into soccer season, where he took the varsity girls soccer team to another 5A state championship game.
    Wednesday, Tedford will be on the court again, coaching in the North-South All-Star basketball game.

    Some of the top rising seniors from the Athens-Limestone area will play in six of the games, beginning with softball and soccer games Tuesday.

    Belle Chevre Creamery will hosts the first annual ‘Running with the Goats’ Saturday in downtown Elkmont. The event will feature a 10K, 5K and fun run on the certified Rails to Trails course.
