Tanner’s Maclin makes All-State in basketball, football

By Jonathan Deal

TANNER — He rebounds, he steals, he scores and he dishes it off. Greg Maclin does all these things with ease, and he does them better than anyone else can. The Tanner senior was recently named first-team All-State in basketball, weeks after winning his second 2A basketball title in three years with the Rattlers.

“Greg is what you call a complete player,” said Tanner head coach Chris Whitt. “He’s our best defender, he scores points, he can handle the ball at the point if I need him to. He’s just an all-around player. He gets eight, nine rebounds a game. Everything you want him to do, he does it.”

On any other team, Maclin would stand out as the star player without any hesitation. But on a Tanner team so loaded with talent, Maclin blends in and goes about his business. Even with so many good players surrounding him, the 6-foot, 2-inch guard led Tanner with 12.8 points and 2.3 assists per game this season. He also had 6.5 rebounds and was second on the team in free throw percentage, making 85 of 116 attempts.
