From staff reports
Clements snapped a 12-game region losing streak with a wild 34-32 win at West Morgan Friday. The Colts last region win came against Danville on Sept. 9, 2011.
The win to break the streak couldn’t have come in more dramatic fashion.
It was a game where it seemed the team with the ball last would win.
The drama began after DeMarcus Johnson gave Clements a 34-26 lead late in the fourth quarter with a touchdown reception from quarterback Jimmy Marsh. West Morgan quickly answered with a scoring drive that left just over two minutes remaining. On the ensuing two-point conversion, a swarm of Clements defenders tackled the Rebels ball carrier just outside the goal line to preserve the victory.
Johnson led Clements with three touchdowns, two from Marsh through the air. Hunter Bivens added two more touchdowns on the ground, Tremayne Smith also scored a rushing touchdown.
Clements faces a tough road in Class 3A Region 8 over the next two weeks. The Colts host No. 1 Madison Academy Sept. 13 followed by a trip to Lauderdale County on Sept. 20.
