Elkmont, West win XC titles

— The Elkmont boys cross-country team narrowly edged Athens Bible to claim the county crown Tuesday afternoon at the third annual Limestone County Championships at Blue Springs track.

West Limestone easily won the girls trophy with four runners in the top seven. West Limestone’s Reilly Hooie was the top runner with a time of 21:44. Other West runners contributing to the first-place finish were Siara Serrato (22:16), Rainey Tyler (22:57), Brianna Burrow (22:59) and Hope Dildine (23:38).

A school’s top five runners count toward the team score when deciding the team trophies.

Elkmont won a close varsity boys race with three runners in the top 10 led by Chance Bailey (17:36), Adam McMahan (17:56) and Tyler Helms (18:05).

Athens’ Tate Carden (17:03) claimed the individual title for the boys race followed by Mack van Wagnen (17:26) of Clements.

Elkmont narrowly held off Athens Bible for the boys championship. All Athens Bible runners finished among the top 20 overall, led by Ryan Crews (17:42), Dalton Adams (18:05) and Will Crews (18:36).

ABS also finished second in the girls race with four runners in the top 10. Anna Persell was Athens Bible’s top runner at 22:16.

Cross-country races down the road include the Oct. 17 Athens Bible Invitational and the Northwest Alabama Championships in Oakville, Oct. 24.
