Elkmont ran for more than 300 yards and played suffocating defense as the Red Devils cruised to a 35-6 victory over Clements Friday. Elkmont held the Colts to 51 total yards including zero completions and two interceptions.
Mike Tucker led the ground attack with touchdown runs of 1, 2 and 12 yards. Tucker finished with 19 carries for 140 yards and three touchdowns.
The Red Devils’ start to the game was a polar opposite from last week against No. 1 Madison Academy when Elkmont lost three fumbles inside its own 30-yard line. Friday night, Elkmont’s Joshua Carter blocked a Clements punt on the Colts opening possession.
Carter led Elkmont’s defense with four tackles, a blocked punt and a sack.
The blocked punt led to a Jarred Bailey 1-yard touchdown run to give EHS a 7-0 first-quarter lead. Bailey finished with 15 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown. He also completed his only pass of the game for 29 yards.
Tucker added two short TD runs in the second quarter as Elkmont led 21-0 at halftime.
Zeb Pankey scored on a 22-yard run to begin the third quarter to end any hopes of a Clements second half comeback. Carson Cook scored Clements only touchdown on a 5-yard run.
Elkmont (3-4, 3-2) can clinch a playoff berth with a win over Deshler or Lauderdale County over the next two weeks.
Clements (1-6, 1-4) hosts Colbert County (7-0, 5-0) next week.
