ABS wins another area title, advances to Super Regional

ATHENS — Athens Bible’s volleyball team punched their ticket Monday night to the Super Regional Friday and Saturday, Oct 25-26, at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville. ABS advanced with a win over Decatur Heritage to win the 1A Area 15 tournament.

ABS swept Decatur Heritage in straight sets (25-12, 25-19, 25-13) to advance to the mega tournament that will host 96 teams. Athens Bible will play Marion County on court one at 9 a.m. Friday.

Should ABS win its opening match, it could play 1A No. 6 Lynn for a trip to the state tournament. Four teams advance to state from the single elimination tournament, meaning two wins would send ABS to state.

If Athens Bible wins its opening match, it would play the winner of Lynn/Cedar Bluff at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Some other area teams have not fared as well. Tanner was eliminated by Hatton in 2A Area 15 while West Morgan knocked Elkmont out of the 3A Area 15 tournament. Clements was eliminated by Deshler in the 3A Area 16 tournament.

Tuesday’s area tournaments include Ardmore (4A Area 15) at John Paul II, West Limestone (4A Area 16) at Wilson, East Limestone (5A Area 15) at Hartselle and Athens (5A Area 16) at Muscle Shoals.
