East Limestone's Gandy honored for big game



Ben Mills, Coosa Christian: Ran for 211 yards and had 90 yards receiving and accounted for foru touchdowns in the Conquerors’ 62-40 win over Southeastern.


Nykell Mitchell, Beauregard: Finished with 20 carries for 210 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage, in Beauregard’s 42-14 win over Loachapoka.


Keith Mixon, Shades Valley: Totaled five touchdowns and 212 yards in the first half as the Mounties downed Pelham 55-20. Mixon ran for 147 yards on 12 carries with three scores (19, 27 and 8 yards) and caught two passes for 65 yards, both going for touchdowns (55 and 10 yards).


Frank Moody, St. James: Broke a 28-year-old school record with 394 yards rushing and scored four touchdowns on 39 carries in a 48-10 win at Catholic.


Zack Morgan, Daphne: Passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more in a 38-12 win over Alma Bryant. 


Cole Murphy, Gaylesville: Rushed for 116 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns. He also completed 7 of 12 pass attempts for 105 yards and led the Trojan defense with eight tackles (1 for loss) in a 24-20 win at Ohatchee.


Jarrod Owens, Curry: Connected on a 19-yard touchdown pass with 14 seconds to go and followed that with the game-winning 2-point conversion pass as the Yellow Jackets rallied to beat Cordova 42-41. He finished with 238 yards, completing 9-of-17 passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns and rushing 15 times for 164 yards and three touchdowns.


Thomas Ozmint, Glencoe: Carried 26 times for 165 yards and three TDs in a 31-24 over Etowah.


Jacob Parker, Westminster Christian: Ran for 173 yards and three touchdowns (64, 47, 23) on 14 carries in a 38-6 win over Shoals Christian.


Kamryn Pettway, Prattville: Ran 19 times for 206 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-21 win over Northview.


Jarrett Pope, Clarke Prep: Rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Gators to a 59-19 win over Pickens Academy.


Tripp Puckett, Bayside Academy: Rushed for 255 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries in a 55-28 victory over Satsuma. He scored on runs of 72, 27 and 44 yards.

  • Local athletes lead North to soccer sweep

    East Limestone’s Dilan Sayer scored the opening goal and was named MVP of the boys game in a 3-0 win while Jordan Runion scored her team’s opening goal in a 3-1 for the girls.

  • Davidson helps North tie

    She was one of only three North players to record a hit in the opener, which ended 3-3.
    Pitching duties were shared by Lexington’s Jessie Butler, Central-Florence’s Ashley Irons and Hartselle’s Jada Hayes along with eventual North MVP Maddie Moore of Winfield.

  • Tedford, Potts take on the South in All-Star hoops game

    Stace Tedford has had a busy year at Athens. After leading the basketball team to a school-record 24 consecutive wins and regional finals appearance, he jumped straight into soccer season, where he took the varsity girls soccer team to another 5A state championship game.
    Wednesday, Tedford will be on the court again, coaching in the North-South All-Star basketball game.
