The Ardmore Tigers made baseball history Friday by sweeping Haleyville to advance to the program’s first-ever state finals series.
Cody Reed struck out 18 and held Haleyville to one hit in a 5-1 opening game win. The second game wasn’t as easy.
After the Tigers fell behind early, Carson Pack hit a three-run homer in the fourth to put them up 3-1. The lead lasted until the sixth when Haleyville rallied to tie.
In the bottom of the eighth, Hayden Durrett led off with a single, followed by a Thomas Davidson walk-off single to send Ardmore through with a 4-3 extra-innings win.
Garrett Miller pitched the full eight for Ardmore. The junior kept Haleyville off the board, despite them having runners in scoring position in both the seventh and eighth innings.
Ardmore will play the winner of Charles Henderson and Childersburg Thursday at Montgomery’s Paterson Field for the 4A state championship.
