Limestone well represented at All-Star Week

— A pair of Tanner seniors were added this week to the list of local players who will participate in the AHSAA All-Star Week later this summer.

Fred Rich and Kyle Shoulders will represent Limestone County in the North-South football game played July 18 at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl.

Shoulders, who played fullback and defensive end for Tanner was selected as a defensive lineman while Rich, a running back and linebacker for the Rattlers, will join the team as an all-purpose athlete.

The North-South football game culminates a week of activities in the state’s capitol for high school athletes. All-Star Sports Week, which includes in-state all-star games in baseball, softball, volleyball and boys’ and girls’ basketball and soccer, will also feature the Summer Conference with clinics and professional development sessions for coaches, principals, athletic directors, cheerleader coaches and officials.

Athens’ Nathaniel “Giddy” Potts and East Limestone’s Jordon Gandy were selected to the North basketball squad. Both will be seniors next season.

Also selected from the Athens championship soccer team was rising senior Miranda Hudleston. East Limestone’s Bristol Countess will join Hudleston on the North all-star squad.

East Limestone head coach Brad Carwile will help coach the North team.

Another Athens athlete, Brianna Caldwell, was selected to the North softball team.

The 17th annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week will be held July 15-19 in Montgomery. The week will feature an All-Sports Equipment Expo and other related activities throughout the week.

Two of the highlights will be the Sportsmanship Banquet, which honors all schools that have not had an ejection or fine during the 2012-13 school year, and the Championship Coaches Awards Banquet, which recognizes coaches whose teams won a state championship during the 2012-13 school year as well as the 2013 Making A Difference Award winners.
