— The Limestone County Sports Hall of Fame is currently accepting nominations for the 2014 Class. They will be the 11th class inducted into Limestone County’s most prestigious sports club.

“Our intent is to have the class elected during the month of March,” said Jeff Hodges, Limestone County Sports HOF vice president. “We are currently soliciting nominations for about another month.”

Hodges said the Hall of Fame board will meet in March to deliberate on the latest group to be inducted. The upcoming class will not be as large as last year’s group, which featured 12 individuals from every school and community in the county.

The 2014 class will have at least six members, but no more than eight, according to Hodges. While the board is accepting new nominations, there are still dozens of other names to consider from being nominated in previous years.

“We’ve got a pretty good backlog,” said Hodges. “I think three from last year were first-time nominees though, so it’s been a good mixture. If you were nominated in the past, you will always be considered.”

The Limestone HOF inducted 12 members last year to coincide with its 10th anniversary, but will most likely stay with to 6 to 8 new inductees each year.

To be eligible, any candidate must be age 35 or older and a native of Limestone County, attended high school in Limestone County, or have been a resident of Limestone County for a period of time sufficient to be considered a resident.

If a candidate meets those criteria they will be considered for induction as a player if they have been retired or out of professional competition for five years; as a coach if they are out of active competition; as an official if they are no longer officiating or any other individual whose contributions to sports in a supporting role, is deemed by the board of directors as so significant as to warrant induction.
