Clements senior eclipses the 3,000th point mark

CLEMENTS — Clements senior center DaNeshia "Lu Lu" Malone scored her 3,000th point during a 81-28 victory over Sheffield Thursday. Only 12 other players have scored at least 3,000 points in Alabama girls basketball.

The 18-year-old Malone, who has started since the fifth game of her seventh-grade season, is on pace to finish among the state's top 10 all-time in career points and rebounds. She is the county's all-time leading scorer in girls basketball, passing Tanner's Candace Byrd (2,795 points from 1995-2000) in the Clements' final game last season. Byrd is the state's all-time leader in career rebounds (2,065).
