Oxford's Thomas named Alabama's Mr. Football

— MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Oxford High School running back Racean Thomas has been named Alabama's Mr. Football.

Thomas was presented the award by the Alabama Sports Writers Association at a banquet on Wednesday.

The three-time all-state performer ran for 2,211 yards and 32 touchdowns as a senior despite battling injuries. Thomas ran for 6,169 yards and 82 touchdowns in his career.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Thomas verbally committed to Auburn in August. He's rated as a five-star prospect and one of the nation's top running backs.

Thomas received 217 points and 15 of the 17 first-place votes. Calera High quarterback Ronnie Clark finished second, followed by Auburn High linebacker Rashaan Evans and Florence quarterback Kendrick Doss.

Clark is committed to Alabama and Doss to Mississippi. Evans is one of the top uncommitted prospects in Alabama.
