Athens continues to move up prep poll

—  The Athens High boys basketball team moved up a spot to No. 4 in the latest ASWA basketball rankings, announced Wednesday afternoon. The Golden Eagles continue to climb the poll in 5A thanks to a 13-game winning streak.

Athens picked up a pair of area wins in the past week to improve to 16-3 and will host Russellville tonight.

Tanner (10-5) remained No. 7 in Class 2A after a busy week. The Rattlers played four games in five days, winning a pair of area games in the process.

In the girls’ poll, West Limestone (12-7) dropped four spots to No. 7 after losing back-to-back games against Rogers and Tanner.

Athens (12-6) remained No. 9 in 5A while Tanner (8-4) stayed at No. 6 in 2A despite knocking off West Limestone Tuesday.
