Giddy Potts breaks AHS 3-point record

— Nathaniel “Giddy” Potts hit a school record nine 3-pointers as Athens cruised to an 82-40 victory over Russellville Friday. Potts came three points shy of outscoring the entire Russellville team.

The senior put up a season-high 37 points as Athens improved to 4-1 in area play and won their 14th consecutive game.

Jackson Pettus contributed 14 points in the win for Athens. No. 4 AHS plays at Austin Tuesday.

Tanner 61

Lexington 50

JonJon Fletcher and Ibrahim White combined for 31 points as Tanner finished the season undefeated in area play. The Rattlers jumped out to an 18-10 first quarter lead and never trailed the remainder of the game.

Ty Mayberry added 12 rebounds and eight points. Tanner hit 9 of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter to put the game way.

Russellville 20

Taylor Hall and Deja Williams each scored 10 points as Athens picked up another area win against in 5A Area 16. After leading by six at halftime, Athens pulled away from Russellville in the third quarter for the comfortable victory.

No. 9 AHS improved to 4-1 in area play.

West Limestone 50

Rogers 49

West Limestone picked up a pivotal area victory over Rogers Thursday night, thanks to big games from Kayla Carter and Shelby Clay. The Lady Cats scored the go-ahead basket with less than 20 seconds remaining to improve to 4-1 in area play and take the upper hand in 4A Area 16.
