More Limestone football schedules finalized

— West Limestone will play as many as four other Limestone County schools, according to the full list of 2014 football schedules announced this week. The Wildcats will play Tanner, East Limestone and Ardmore as nonregion opponents and will host Elkmont Sept. 19 for a 4A Region 8 contest.

West will open the season at home against the two-time defending state champions, Tanner on Aug. 22 followed by a trip to East Limestone the following Thursday. Both are regular season games. West will play an exhibition game Aug. 15 and close the season on Halloween at Ardmore.

Tanner also made a change to its schedule. Along with opening the season at West Limestone, the Rattlers will host Maplesville Sept. 26 and travel to R.A. Hubbard Oct. 17 for its nonregion games.

Tanner beings its regular season Aug. 22 and plays 10 consecutive games with a bye week Oct. 25- Oct. 31, the final week of the regular season.

All other Limestone County football schedules are complete.

Ardmore is the other Limestone team to play four other county schools. The Tigers host East Limestone in the new 5A Region 8 along with playing Elkmont, Clements and West as nonregion foes.

East Limestone will keep its rivalry with Athens alive after AHS’s move to Class 6A. East will travel to Athens Sept. 26 before hosting region favorites Russellville the following week. East Limestone’s final game of the season will be a road game at North Jackson.

Competing in Class 4A for the first time in school history, Elkmont will play in a region featuring five Lauderdale County schools. Elkmont’s five home games include Brooks, Wilson, New Hope, Deshler and Rogers.

Region 8 in the 3A couldn’t have been more difficult for Clements the past two years. The new region schedule will again be difficult with games against Lexington, Colbert County, Madison Academy and Lauderdale County. Clements will open the season at Central.

Tanner faces the most travel of all the Limestone schools. The Rattlers have region road games at Addison (50 miles), Sumiton Christian (77 miles) and Southeastern (92 miles).
