Tanner sits comfortably at No. 3 in prep poll

— For the fifth consecutive week, Tanner (5-1) finds itself near the top of the 2A poll. THS remains ranked No. 3 behind two 6-0 teams, Washington County and Mobile Christian. Tanner is the highest ranked one-loss team.

In 4A Ardmore received enough votes to be ranked 13th in the state last week before a blowout loss to J.O. Johnson, which is now ranked No. 10 in 4A.

Athens also came close to a top 10 ranking earlier in the season before consecutive losses to Hartselle and Muscle Shoals saw the Golden Eagles lose momentum. A strong finish to the season could see Athens back in the top 10.

East Limestone is the only team locally that will play a top ranked opponent when the Indians travel to 5A No. 3 Muscle Shoals.

There are a number of games across the state, however, that involve ranked teams this week including 4A No. 1 ranked Calera traveling to No. 7 Bibb County. In 5A, No. 1 ranked Spanish Fort is playing No. 9 Vigor and No. 2 Jackson is hosting No. 8 Saraland.

In other games involving ranked teams, Class 6A No. 5 Smiths Station is at No. 3 Opelika, Class 1A No. 7 McKenzie is at No. 3 Brantley, while in the AISA, No. 5 Tuscaloosa Academy is at No. 7 Bessemer Academy and No. 6 Marengo Academy hosts No. 4 Pickens Academy.
