— The whirring of flash photography, clinking glassware, ringing applause and peals of laughter filled a crowded ballroom Monday night at the Sheraton as 96 regional winners were recognized during the 28th annual Bryant-Jordan Scholar Athlete Awards Banquet.

Athens Bible School’s Jacob Hagewood and Ardmore High School’s Lydia Eubanks were among 48 Scholar-Athlete Award $2,500 scholarship winners. The 48 Achievement Award regional recipients also received $2,500 scholarships.

Hagewood lettered in basketball and cross-country, and is the starting catcher for the third-ranked Class 1A ABS baseball team. He is ranked second out of 34 seniors, and has a 4.41 grade point average.

Eubanks lettered in volleyball, basketball and soccer for the Class 4A Tigers, and was named All-County on the hardwood. She is ranked third among 107 seniors, and has a 4.37 GPA.

Each of the six state classifications had eight finalists, and state winners received $3,000 in additional scholarship money.
