East volleyball team looks to build on county tournament win

Athens Bible only local team hosting area tournament

— Volleyball’s regular season wrapped up this week with the Limestone County Tournament held at West Limestone Saturday. After losing to Ardmore in the championship game last year, East Limestone reclaimed the county crown, defeating Ardmore 25-13, 18-25, 17-15 in the championship game.

Cheyenne Redus led East with nine kills, nine digs and six blocks while Brennan Crabtree added seven kills and nine digs. Libero Casey Carpenter had a team-high 21 digs for East.

The Lady Indians will look to build on that win when they travel to Hartselle for the 5A Area 15 Tournament next week. East Limestone will play Cullman Tuesday, October 22 for a chance to advance to the North Super Regional at the Von Braun Civic Center.

“We split with them in the regular season, but we didn’t play well in that loss. I think we’ve got a great chance to advance,” said East Limestone head coach Nicole Eslick. We’ve got a very mature group of girls.”

East Limestone is one of eight local teams playing in area tournaments next week. Athens Bible is the only Limestone team that will host an area volleyball tournament. ABS plays the winner of Decatur Heritage/Whitesburg Christian at 5:45 Monday, Oct. 21.

The two teams advancing to the finals of each region will move on the Super Regional held at Huntsville’s Von Braun Civic Center Oct. 25-26.
