ABS volleyball team advances to state

HUNTSVILLE — Athens Bible punched its ticket to the Elite Eight State Volleyball tournament Saturday morning with a hard fought win over over 1A No. 6 Lynn.

The No. 8 ranked Trojans lost the first game 25-20 before winning the next three games to defeat Lynn and qualify for state.

Athens Bible won 25-19, 25-16, 25-19 in the game played at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.

Four teams from each classification qualify for state.

ABS won its opening game of the Super Regional 25-14, 25-11, 25-17 Friday morning. That set up the second round game against Lynn Saturday morning.

Athens Bible played Meek in the North Super Regional Semifinal Saturday afternoon in a game that finished after press time. The winner of that game advanced to play the Spring Garden/Addison game for the North Championship to determine seeding for the state tournament.

This is Athens Bible’s 10th state tournament appearance in the last 16 seasons.

East Limestone lost its opening game to Walker in straight sets 25-9, 25-21, 25-21 and were eliminated from the tournament.

Ardmore also lost in straight sets to Oneonta 25-13, 25-15, 25-23 to end the Tigers’ season.
