Six local cross-country teams will compete in the state meet at Oakville Indians Mounds in Lawrence County on Saturday, Nov. 9, after advancing from section meets last weekend.
The Athens Bible boys team advanced with a second-place finish in the 1A-2A race, led by Dalton Adams’ third-place finish. Adams (17:53) was the Trojans’ top runner, followed by Will Crews (18:55) and Noah Higinbotham (19:13).
The top three teams from Class 1A-6A in each section qualify for the state meet.
The ABS girls team also finished second with two runners — Anna Persell (22:31) and Hannah Wilson (22:32) — in the top 10.
Elkmont won the 3A, Section 4 race with a pair of runners in the top five. Chance Bailey (18:06) and Adam McMahan (18:18) led the Red Devils to the section title.
Clements’ Mack van Wagnen was the top runner in the 3A race with a time of (17:28) and will qualify as an individual. Teammate Richard Hodges (18:36) will join van Wagnen as an individual qualifier at state.
With three runners in the top 10, the Elkmont girls team placed third to earn a trip to state. Samantha Pressenell (23:05), Hannah Hanback (23:30) and Adriel McMahan (23:45) finished 7th, 9th and 10th, respectively, to help the Red Devils qualify.
For Clements, Abby Craig (23:23) and Brooklyn DeVaney (24:25) qualified as individual runners for the 3A state meet.
West Limestone won its 4A section race, which featured 10 teams from North Alabama. The Wildcats wielded three of the top six runners to fend off Brooks for the section title, with Ramon Quiroz (18:18), Kent Wilburn (18:34) and Jacob Martin (18:38) leading the way to state.
The West Limestone girls team also qualified for state, led by Reilly Hooie (21:41, 7th) and Alexis Allen (21:47, 8th), while Ardmore’s Peyton Randolph (22:54) will compete as an individual.
Athens senior speedster Tate Carden (17:14) finished third in the 5A race and will run as an individual at state.
