Athens’ Schrimsher honored for big 2nd half

— Athens safety Paxton Schrimsher was honored by the ASWA for his performance in Athens’ second round win over Pleasant Grove Friday.

The junior had two second half interceptions, returning one for 65 yards for a score.

Other players honored were:

MILESTONE

Jermarcus Brown, Pickens County: Rushed for 259 yards on 23 carries and scored five touchdowns in a 38-22 Tornadoes win over Addison in Class 1A. His rushing TDs covered 52, 11, 29 and 47 yards to set a school single-season record with 44 rushing touchdowns. His fifth TD came on a 3-yard pass reception, a 59-yard TD on the first play of the third period that helped Pickens County (12-0) overcome a 15-14 deficit en route to the victory.

 

RUSHING

Marlon Bridges, Lanett:
 Rushed for 309 yards and six touchdowns in Lanett's win over Fultondale. He has now rushed for 2,164 yards in 11 games this season.

Josh Thomas, Montgomery Academy: Ran for 219 yards and three touchdowns, threw a 22-yard TD pass and scored on a 70-yard punt return in a 54-44 Class 2A win at Ranburne. His TD runs covered 19, 61 and 79 yards.

Devin Scott, Straughn: The Tigers’ running back rushed for 261 yards on 27 carries, including 189 yards on 22 of Straughn’s 30 second-half snaps, with a pair of touchdowns (41 and 44 yards) in a 29-20 victory over previously undefeated Dale County in Class 3A.

Jamarius Henderson, Dale County: The junior running back earned 200 yards on 21 carries with two touchdowns (62 and 1 yard) in a 29-20 loss to Straughn. He finished the season with over 2,000 yards rushing as the 3A Warriors finished 11-1.

Ronnie Clark, Calera: Ran for 222 yards on 30 carries with two scores (6 and 3 yards) and added a 27-yard touchdown pass in the 35-24 loss to Dadeville.

Jordan Johnson, Vestavia Hills: Totaled 191 all-purpose yards with 109 yards rushing on 20 attempts. He had  a 10-yard score and added an 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the 31-28 win over Bessemer City.

    East Limestone’s Dilan Sayer scored the opening goal and was named MVP of the boys game in a 3-0 win while Jordan Runion scored her team’s opening goal in a 3-1 for the girls.

  • Davidson helps North tie

    She was one of only three North players to record a hit in the opener, which ended 3-3.
    Pitching duties were shared by Lexington’s Jessie Butler, Central-Florence’s Ashley Irons and Hartselle’s Jada Hayes along with eventual North MVP Maddie Moore of Winfield.

  • Tedford, Potts take on the South in All-Star hoops game

    Stace Tedford has had a busy year at Athens. After leading the basketball team to a school-record 24 consecutive wins and regional finals appearance, he jumped straight into soccer season, where he took the varsity girls soccer team to another 5A state championship game.
    Wednesday, Tedford will be on the court again, coaching in the North-South All-Star basketball game.

    Belle Chevre Creamery will hosts the first annual ‘Running with the Goats’ Saturday in downtown Elkmont. The event will feature a 10K, 5K and fun run on the certified Rails to Trails course.
