Elkmont edges Ardmore in alumni game

— In front of a crowd of more than 1,000 people, Elkmont’s alumni football team hung on for a 20-6 win Friday over alumni from Ardmore.

With alumni bands and cheerleaders on hand to lend support, the traditional rivals played their first-ever alumni football game.

Gery Jones opened the scoring for Elkmont on 4-yard run after an Ardmore failed fake punt attempt set them up in good field position.

Brandon Turner connected with Nick Solomon for a 93-yard touchdown to make 14-0.

Ardmore’s only touchdown came from a 10-yard run by Derrick Green. Elkmont added the final score of the game just before the half on a 19-yard run by Jones.

Elkmont’s defense stopped Ardmore three times inside its own 10-yard line on fourth down.

Each team fielded between 30 – 35 players. Ardmore’s alumni ranged from 1985 to 2011 graduates while Elkmont’s players graduated between the years 1974-2011.

Elkmont’s oldest player, Donnie Johns, a 1974 graduate, had the final carry of the night as time expired.
