Athens girls back in state tournament

— Athens girls soccer team qualified for their 8th consecutive state soccer tournament after beating Fort Payne 2-0 Saturday night in the 5A quarterfinals.

Riley Ridgeway and Ashley Ward scored for Athens to secure the 2-0 victory. Athens will play St. Paul's at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the 5A girls semifinals.

Tanner nearly joined Athens at the state tournament, but fell to Randolph 3-2 in double overtime Saturday.

The state soccer tournament will be played Friday and Saturday, May 9-10 at John Hunt Park in Huntsville.
