Tanner cruises to 32nd consecutive region win at Colbert Heights

— Tanner (5-1, 4-0) continued its state-best region winning streak Friday with a 56-6 demolition of Colbert Heights. The Rattlers scored four touchdowns in the first quarter and added two more in the second to take a 42-6 halftime lead.

It was 56-6 after three quarters of play before Colbert Heights added a touchdown with 12 second to play for the final score.

The Rattlers scored the first three times they had the ball, beginning with a 3-yard scamper from Hayden Stephens. Tanner went to the air for its next two scores when Jon Jon Fletcher connected with Chris Townsend and Blake Whitt from inside the 10-yard-line to make it 21-0.

Deshun Freeman put the game away before the first quarter horn sounded when he took a punt return back 70 yards for a score. Freeman scored again in the second quarter on a 30-yard Fletcher pass.

Fletcher finished with a season-high five touchdown passes and carried the ball four times for 84 yards and another score. Stephens finished with 13 carries for 113 yards and two touchdowns.

Tanner has three games remaining on its schedule before the Rattlers begin defending their 2A crown in the postseason. Tanner is in first place in 2A Region 8, one game ahead of Red Bay and Lexington.
