No. 1 ABS out in 2nd round

Trojans swept by 3-time defending champs

— Athens Bible’s regular season sweep of Shoals Christian might have been the worst thing that could have happened to the No. 1 ranked Trojans. Sure, it gave ABS home field advantage in the second round 1A playoff series.

But as the saying goes, it’s hard to beat a team for a third time, and in this case a fourth.

No. 2 Shoals Christian swept ABS on its home field Friday afternoon, 8-2 and 11-3, to eliminate the Trojans from the postseason and end their season.

Athens Bible appeared on it way to a third straight against the Flame in the opening game after taking a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. ABS led off the fourth inning with consecutive singles to load the bases. With the bases loaded and no outs, Douglas Fields drove home a run to get ABS on the board.
