Pugh’s 3 TDS pace West Limestone

‘Cats earn 49-13 win at East Lawrence

CADDO — West Limestone’s offense exploded in the second half for 35 unanswered points as the Wildcats defeated East Lawrence 49-13 in Class 4A, Region play.

The Wildcats picked up their first region win, while East Lawrence remains winless on the season despite only trailing 14-13 at halftime.

West Limestone running back Logan Pugh contributed three touchdowns, including two rushing scores and an 18-yard touchdown catch in the opening period.

West quarterback Drew Blakely tossed two scoring passes, including a 66-yarder to Matthew Reyer in the third, and scored on a 44-yard scampered in the second.

The game was scoreless until 4:15 left in the first, when Pugh broke loose for a 10-yard touchdown run to put the Wildcats ahead 7-0.

The Eagles quickly answered with 7 minutes remaining in the second with a 25-yard TD pass from Allen West to T.C. Lowe to tie the game.

The Wildcats quickly responded with Blakely’s run to regain the lead at 14-7. East Lawrence scored on a 60-yard punt return by Allen West to trim the deficit to one point at halftime, but the Eagles could get no closer for the rest of the night.

Pugh scored on runs of 29 and 8 yards and Reyer hauled in Blakely’s second TD pass in the third. Tyler Mewbourn plunged in from the Eagles’ 1, and Chase Lancaster recovered a fumble and returned it 40 yards during the final period for the Wildcats.

Matthew Sanders converted 7 of 7 extra points for West. Pugh finished with nine carries for 102 yards, while Dillon Miller had 14 carries for 76 yards and Tucker McCormick ran eight times for 59 yards.

East Lawrence (0-4, 0-3 Region 8) travels to 3A West Morgan (0-4) next week for the annual Morgan-Lawrence border war, while West Limestone (2-2, 1-2) hosts 3A Elkmont (2-2) in non-region action.

    Wednesday, Tedford will be on the court again, coaching in the North-South All-Star basketball game.
