D.A.R. topples Ardmore, 48-32, to nab No. 3 seed

Miller accounts for 4 TDs in Tigers’ loss

GRANT — Ardmore limped into a prizefight for the No. 3 seed in Class 4A, Region 7, and came away with another injured starter and a 48-32 loss to the D.A.R. Patriots.

The Tigers (6-3, 4-3) will play at Region 5 No. 1 seed Munford in the first round of the 4A playoffs on Nov. 8. Ardmore has dropped two straight games for the first time this season after opening the season 5-0.

Ardmore — which entered the game with seven injured players, including four starters — lost running back Ricky Lowery in the first half.

The Patriots (6-3, 4-3) produced two 100-yard rushers in Tony Pate and running back Dalton Barkes and jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter.

Ardmore’s Carson Pack scored on an 8-yard run and quarterback Garrett Miller threw a 15-yard touchdown to Lowery to trim the margin to 26-12 at halftime.

Despite four TDs on the night by Miller, including two QB keepers and scoring passes to Lowery and Hayden Durrett (24 yards), Ardmore could only trade punches with D.A.R. in the second half, with each team scoring three times.

Miller, who picked off Patriots quarterback T.J. Steele from his safety position, threw for 104 yards and two TDs with no interceptions on 6 of 13 passing.  He also ran 11 times for 61 yards and two scores.

Despite his first-half injury, Lowery had a team-high 78 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown reception.

Ardmore did not kick an extra-point and was 4 of 5 on two-point conversions, with Durrett catching a 2-point pass from Miller following Lowery’s score in the second quarter.

D.A.R. went 3 of 7 on its 2-point attempts and did not try a PAT, with Steele, Barkes and Hunter Slaton each scoring on 2-point runs.

Steele ran for a touchdown and went 4 of 5 passing for 80 yards with two TDs and one interception.

Pate ran eight times for 136 yards with a rushing touchdown and a TD catch, while Barkes had 13 carries for 105 yards and three scores.

Ardmore caps its regular season at home next Friday against cross-county rival West Limestone (6-3) in a 4A non-region clash of two playoff-bound teams. The Wildcats won 28-12 in last year’s showdown.
