Killen — A big second quarter was not enough for West Limestone to win its region opener in Killen Friday. The Wildcats scored all their points in the second quarter but were shut out in the second half in a 27-12 loss at Brooks.
After Brooks got on the board first, Dillon Miller kept West in contention with a 6-yard rushing touchdown. Reed Blankenship’s 19-yard touchdown catch from John Bachus later in the quarter pulled West within a touchdown at the half.
Blakenship led West in receiving with two catches for 91 yards and a touchdown. Bachus, an eighth-grader, completed 7 of 19 pass attempts for 188 yards and a touchdown. Tucker McCormick was the Wildcats leading rusher with 43 yards on eight attempts.
West Limestone (1-1, 0-1) will face another tough opponent Friday when it hosts Central-Florence in another region contest.
