Baseball teams continue area play today
Baseball teams across the state will be back in action today following a break from area play during spring break last week. At least seven Limestone baseball teams are in action today against area opponents.
Sayer goal sinks Tanner
East Limestone left it late, but Dilan Sayer made sure the Indians left with a victory Monday afternoon against Tanner. After coming close for 76 minutes, Sayer scored the winner with four minutes remaining to give East Limestone a 2-1 victory.
Ardmore extends 7-game win streak, remains unbeaten in 4A
Ardmore (13-7, 4-0 Area 14) is poised for another deep postseason run after last season’s quarterfinal appearance, winning seven consecutive games since a 3-0 defeat at the hands of 6A No. 4 Huntsville on March 8.
Former Limestone softball talents thriving at Calhoun
Nancy Keenum couldn’t remember a time when her team didn’t feature at least one player from Limestone County. It’s no different this season with four Calhoun players hailing from Athens or Limestone County schools.

3 All-State players headline All-County girls team
Tanner senior guard Sydney Houston and West Limestone junior forward Kayla Carter were both among the five best players in their respective classes in the state. Both made the Limestone County All-County first team, as voted on by the county’s coaches. As good as they were, neither has scored as many points as Brennan Crabtree. The East Limestone senior guard was named County MVP after leading her team to the Indians’ first regional appearance in 16 years.
East, Tanner, West dominate boys team
East Limestone, Tanner or West Limestone have all played for a county championship in the past four years. East and Tanner have each won two over that period and West has reached at least the semifinals during that span. The three schools have two players apiece on the first-team All-County, while East has the MVP in Jordon Gandy.
Giddy Potts a finalist for Mr. Basketball
The awards for Athens senior Nathanial “Giddy” Potts just keep rolling in. After being selected to the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game and 5A All-State first team, Potts has been named a finalist for Class 5A Player of the Year and Mr. Basketball.
Whitt, Davis selected as All-County coaches
One of them is approaching 500 career wins. The other just finished his first season as a varsity head coach. No matter the amount of games they’ve coached, both Chris Whitt and Josh Davis had successful seasons at their respective schools this season.
