  • Biking for a cure

    The fifth annual Bike MS returns to Athens Saturday and, with it, a local ultra endurance world champion.
    Athens native and current East Limestone resident David Kyle has won competitions all over the world. He has competed in more than 50 multi-sport events, including triathlons, duathlons and XTERRA off-road triathlons. In 2013 alone, Kyle placed first in triathlon or duathlon events in California, Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona and Canada.

  • Cantrell named West Limestone head football coach

    West Limestone has a new head football coach, and he will be familiar to Wildcat fans and players. Jordan Cantrell, who served as an assistant coach for the past seven years, was named West’s new head football coach Thursday at a Limestone County Schools Board meeting.

    East Limestone’s football team under head coach Jeff Pugh can be summed up in one word: Tough.
    Win or lose, Pugh wants opposing teams to remember that about his squad. The ninth-year head coach believes his team lacked that toughness in 2013.

    The awards are beginning to roll in for Ardmore senior pitcher Cody Reed. Already one of the favorites for the state’s Mr. Baseball, Reed was named the Gatorade Alabama Baseball Player of the Year on Tuesday.
