Athens, Ardmore, East and Tanner advance to area finals
East Limestone took a big step toward making it to the regional tournament at Wallace State with a 58-35 win over West Point Thursday. Brennan Crabtree poured in 22 points while Rachael Dimond added 15 in the win.
East Limestone advanced to the 5A Area 15 finals where they will hosts Cullman in the area championship. The winner will play the loser of Saturday’s Athens-Muscle Shoals game.
East senior will play football, basketball for Murray State
Jordon Gandy isn’t your typical high school football recruit. The East Limestone senior has all the talent in the world, but went relatively unnoticed until late in the recruiting process.

Voters around the state have taken notice of Athens’ impressive 20-game winning streak. The Golden Eagles finished the regular season ranked No. 3 in Class 5A in the final ASWA basketball rankings, released Thursday.
Stephens signs with Shorter University
Hayden Stephens, 18, is the first among Tanner’s seven-member senior class — which has won two Class 2A championships and posted a 52-3 record in four seasons — to earn a football scholarship after signing a national letter of intent on Wednesday to Shorter University in Rome, Ga.
Anderson inks with Tennessee Tech
After a standout career at Athens, Johnnie Anderson made it official Wednesday, signing his national letter of intent to attend Tennessee Tech University. Like hundreds of other seniors across the country, Anderson made his commitment official on national signing day, held the first Wednesday every February.
Tate Carden will run for UNA
Tate Carden will run cross-country for the Lions after a standout career at Athens. Carden joined four other student-athletes at Athens Wednesday morning in signing national letters of intent.
