Six local cross-country teams will compete in the state meet at Oakville Indians Mounds in Lawrence County on Saturday, Nov. 9, after advancing from section meets last weekend.
Roadway designated to honor Tanner athletics
The county has designated a portion of Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road as the "Road of Champions." The roadway leads to Tanner High School, which has captured five state championships in four sports since February 2011.

Athens Bible in volleyball Elite Eight for 10th time in 16 seasons
After school today, the Athens Bible School volleyball team will be boarding a bus for the state volleyball Elite Eight finals.
ABS volleyball team advances to state
Athens Bible punched its ticket to the Elite Eight State Volleyball tournament Saturday morning with a hard fought win over over 1A No. 6 Lynn.
The No. 8 ranked Trojans lost the first game 25-20 before winning the next three games to defeat Lynn and qualify for state.
Athens Bible won 25-19, 25-16, 25-19 in the game played at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.
Athens beats LCHS, clinches playoff spot
What a difference a season can make.
A year ago, postseason play was out of the picture for perennial playoff contender Athens — a first since 2007. But Friday night, the Golden Eagles made sure that stayed in the past, defeating Lawrence County 41-14 in the final Class 5A, Region 8 game of the season, and clinching the fourth and final playoff spot.
