Anderson inks with Tennessee Tech
After a standout career at Athens, Johnnie Anderson made it official Wednesday, signing his national letter of intent to attend Tennessee Tech University. Like hundreds of other seniors across the country, Anderson made his commitment official on national signing day, held the first Wednesday every February.
Tate Carden will run for UNA
Tate Carden will run cross-country for the Lions after a standout career at Athens. Carden joined four other student-athletes at Athens Wednesday morning in signing national letters of intent.

Win over E. Limestone is 19th straight for Athens
The five-point win was Athens closest since Jan. 4 when the Golden Eagles knocked off Columbia 65-61. Athens has not lost since Dec. 6 against Lawrence County.
More Limestone football schedules finalized
West Limestone will play as many as four other Limestone County schools, according to the full list of 2014 football schedules announced this week. The Wildcats will play Tanner, East Limestone and Ardmore as nonregion opponents and will host Elkmont Sept. 19 for a 4A Region 8 contest.
West will open the season at home against the two-time defending state champions, Tanner on Aug. 22 followed by a trip to East Limestone the following Thursday. Both are regular season games. West will play an exhibition game Aug. 15 and close the season on Halloween at Ardmore.

Athens No. 3 in latest hoops poll
Athens continues to climb in the ASWA high school basketball rankings. The boys team moved up another spot to No. 3 in the latest poll, released today.
Athens defeated Grissom, which fell out of the 6A poll this week, and Decatur last week before clinching the regular season area title against Muscle Shoals Monday.
