Best First Snowman of 2011 Contest


— Readers of The News Courier showed us their creativity with cool creations from the Jan. 10 snow. As we did at Christmas, we decided to hold a competition for the best snow figure. We received photos of 108 entries that we’ve packed into eight pages in Sunday’s print edition and posted online at To view online, click the “Snowman Contest” bar on the left side of the page. Be sure to look at all five albums to see all the entries. You can move your cursor across the photo to view the number or see the list below.

To vote, simply email the number corresponding with your favorite to, or tear out the page, circle your favorite and drop it at the newspaper office at 410 W. Green St. in Athens.

Votes must be NUMBERS ONLY. Votes with names or descriptions will not be accepted.

Creator of the winning entry will receive $50 cash; second prize is $25. Have fun!

1. Lacey Hampton, Chelsea Haggermaker, Tona Haggermaker and Cooter got ready for the big game by creating Auburn Snowfan.

2. The Vergara family of Athens built something you aren’t likely to find in Jamaica – the one, the only Bob Marley snowman.
