Best First Snowman of 2011 Contest

— Readers of The News Courier showed us their creativity with cool creations from the Jan. 10 snow. As we did at Christmas, we decided to hold a competition for the best snow figure. We received photos of 108 entries that we’ve packed into eight pages in Sunday’s print edition and posted online at enewscourier.com. To view online, click the “Snowman Contest” bar on the left side of the page. Be sure to look at all five albums to see all the entries. You can move your cursor across the photo to view the number or see the list below.

To vote, simply email the number corresponding with your favorite to kelly@athesnews-courier.com, or tear out the page, circle your favorite and drop it at the newspaper office at 410 W. Green St. in Athens.

Votes must be NUMBERS ONLY. Votes with names or descriptions will not be accepted.

Creator of the winning entry will receive $50 cash; second prize is $25. Have fun!

46. Natali Rios Balboa and Madison Crocker of Rainbow City call their snowman and companions, Auburn vs. duck.

47. Casey and Jessica Newport and Preston Robinson with Aubie the snowman.

48. Mark, in photo, and Melissa Harbin of Toney and Melissa’s parents John and Joan Ramey of Harvest spent three hours making Big Al for the contest and say they “had a blast.”

53. It would seem the snowman by Abby Horne, Emily Leopard and Lauren Horne could easily slip into a French accent and answer to “Pierre.”

54. This rather tall snowman was created by the Horton family.

55. Submitted by Christy Jackson, this photo is simply identified as Jackson’s snowman.

56. The Jimenez family — Oscar, Evangelina, and Erik — spent a day building this big guy they say is “at least 11 feet” tall. Their ladder came in handy. Oscar and Erik are shown posing with the snowman.

57. Doug Swaim constructed a John Deere-themed snowman.

58. East Limestone's Kei Martin builds a “BIG Snowman.”

59. Apparently the hip snowman of Kara McAbee and Bob McAbee of Athens is capable of listening to music.

60. The snowwoman of Michelle McGeorge at Bay Hill appears ready for fun and sun.

61. Cheyenne and Carson Townsend of Anderson stand with the snowman built by their Mom, Tesha.

62. Chandler Mott and his aunt, Ellen Perry show off their 9-foot snowman built in East Limestone.

63. Obviously a snowman that works out, this muscle man is the creation of Brad Kelley.

64. Ed Jones of Tanner created this Oregon Duck. He also created an Auburn Tiger figure in his yard.

65. Meet a snowman simply known as Oscar, and his creators, Paul Kritter and Jessi Davis.

66. Kelli and Kasey Thornton with Roberto the snowman.

67. Mark and Vickie Horton say “There’s a new sheriff in town” and have this guy to prove it.
