A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person whose stray bullet struck a 41-year old man Tuesday night while he was playing basketball with his children outside his McCulley Mill Road home, said the Limestone County Sheriff’s Department.
The victim, Kelvin Davis, remained in critical condition Wednesday at Huntsville Hospital.
He was playing basketball in his driveway at the corner of Ennis and McCulley Mill roads, about 9 p.m. along with his wife, stepchildren and a neighbor's child, when witnesses say they heard a sound like a firecracker and realized the man had been shot in the back, Sheriff Mike Blakely said. The bullet exited his abdomen. Investigators have searched for but have not found the slug.
Officials believe the shooting was an accident.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office at (256) 232-0111.
