Hometown Grocery purchases Piggly Wiggly

ATHENS — Hometown Grocery is expanding in Limestone County.

The owners of the Athens-based store announced today they will be opening in the Piggly Wiggly store on U.S. 31. The grocer acquired Piggly Wiggly at 100 U.S. 31 in Athens at a bankruptcy auction Tuesday in Nashville.

The new site will join the 31-year-old company's store on Jefferson Street in Athens.

“We will now have two locations to serve Limestone County,” said owner Randall Holloway. “We are very excited to get started.”

The new store is expected to open next Thursday.
