Community breakfast

North Border Lodge 391 will hold a community breakfast from 7-9 a.m. Saturday at the Lodge on Salem Field Lane. The public is invited. More information: Mickey Robertson 256-232-2335 or Steve Rogers 256-714-0552.

Food giveaway

Two pounds of pinto beans and three pounds of rice will be given away to anyone in need and while supplies last from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Saint Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 207 E. Washington St., Athens. No questions asked. No names taken.

4 Paws and a Book

4 Paws and a Book, a program to improve the reading skills of children ages 5 and older, will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Houston Memorial Library in Athens. Children may bring their own book or read a favorite of Miss Sophie Grey, a Yorkshire terrier, who will be present for the program. To schedule a time to read, call the library at 256-233-8770.

Boy Scout Christmas trees sale

East Limestone Boy Scout Troop 7236 is selling Fraser fir Christmas trees through Dec. 21 or until sold out at the corner of East Limestone and Capshaw roads at the old Reliance Bank lot. The sale is a fundraiser to buy troop camping equipment.

MEETINGS

• AMVETS. American Veterans will hold its monthly meeting Dec. 19 at 22769 Black Road in Athens. Fellowship with a covered dish dinner will be served at 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. meeting. All veterans are welcome. Contact: Lyle Sadler 256-771-2029.

• Positive Look. The support group for blind and visually impaired, family and friends will meet from 10 a.m. until noon Friday, Dec. 20, at the Athens Recreation Center. Golden Age Band will play. Attendees are requested to bring a favorite dish to go with ham. More information: Wynell Reynolds 256-232-1493.

• NARFE. National Active and Retired Federal Employees chapter 1480 will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Veterans Museum on Pryor Street. Friends from Elkmont Methodist Church will entertain. Breakfast will be served. Reservations: Dean Morgan 256-233-0248.
