‘Blood Stock’ blood drive


The American Red Cross is hosting a Haley Humphrey “Blood Stock” scholarship blood drive from 1-6 p.m. today at New Life Assembly of God Family Life Center, 16768 U.S. 72 West in Athens.

SATURDAY

MLK Day March


The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day march sponsored by the Limestone NAACP will be Saturday in downtown Athens. Lineup is at 9:30 a.m., with the march at 10 from the Limestone County Courthouse Square to the Event Center on Pryor Street. An hour-long program follows the march.

Food giveaway

Two pounds of pinto beans and 3 pounds of rice will be given away to anyone in need and while supplies last from 9-11 a.m., Saturday at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 207 E. Washington St. in Athens. No questions asked, no names taken.

4 Paws and a Book

4 Paws and a Book, a program dedicated to improve reading skills of children ages 5 and older is 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Houston Memorial Library. Children may bring their own book or read a favorite of Miss Sophie Grey, a Yorkshire terrier and a registered R.E.A.D. dog. To schedule a time to read, call the library at 256-233-8770.

MLK ceremony & luncheon


Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park Committee will host the 17th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church. Speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Edward O. Jackson, pastor of The Greater New Antioch Baptist Church of Ensley. The Round Island Creek Association Male Chorus will provide music. Lunch will follow and is free to the public.

Tina Hogan Memorial Fund


Athens-Limestone Hospital has established the Tina Hogan Memorial Fund at First National Bank for anyone wishing to make a donation. This fund is designated for the benefit of Tina’s children, Madison, 21, and Cole, 13. Donations may be made at any First National Bank location: U.S. 72 and Lindsey Lane, the Ardmore location or the new location on Jefferson Street. Tina Hogan, who was a long-time employee in the Quality Management Department at Athens-Limestone Hospital, was killed in a car wreck Jan. 8.

Teen Library Council

Applications for the Teen Library Council are now available at the Athens-Limestone Public Library. TLC will meet to discuss books, movies, music and other items of teen interest. • ASU President’s Ball. The Athens State University Foundation is hosting a meeting from noon-1 p.m. today to organize activities for the 2015 President’s Ball. The meeting is open to the public and will be in the Sandridge Student Center ballroom on the ASU campus.

• Cancer support group. The American Cancer Society support group dinner meeting of survivors and caregivers is at 6 p.m. today at Catfish Cabin.

• ALSO. Athens-Limestone Seniors Organization will meet following a Dutch-treat lunch at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mac’s Steakhouse on South Jefferson Street.

• THS Class of ’67. The Tanner High School Class of 1967 women will meet and eat at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Logan’s Roadhouse restaurant. More information: 256-232-1628.

• AMVETS. The American Veterans monthly meeting is Thursday at 22769 Black Road. Fellowship with a covered dish dinner at 6 p.m., meeting at 7. All veterans are invited. Contact: Lyle Sadler 256-771-2029.

• SCV. The Capt. Thomas H. Hobbs Camp 768 Sons of Confederate Veterans will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Alabama Veterans Museum. Tim Kent will speak on “Hood’s Army at Spring Hill and Franklin.” The public is invited.

• Positive Look. Positive Look support group for the blind, visually impaired and families and friends, meets from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Athens Recreation Center.
