Summer Library Pages


Summer Library Page applications are available at Athens-Limestone Public Library through April 13. Teen summer volunteers must be at least age 13 and have completed seventh grade by June 1. Applications are also available at www.alcpl.org.  Contact Kelli at 256-232-1233 with questions.

AHS greenhouse

Athens High School greenhouse is now open with vegetables, ferns and an assortment of bedding plants. Hours are 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays and 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays.

Vidalia onions sale

Athens Ladies Civitan Club is taking orders for Vidalia onions. Onions are $10 for 10 pounds. Order deadline is April 12. Projected delivery date is early May. Orders taken by phone at 256-232-2865 or 256-729-1255, or by mail at P.O. Box 1814, Athens, AL 35612. Mail checks by April 12 payable to ALCC. Include name, address and telephone number.

CEMETERY CLEANUPS

Pleasant Point Cemetery: Saturday, March 30. Help needed from family or friends of relatives  in the cemetery. Rain day is April 6. Contact: 256-729-6746 or 256-777-4534.

MEETINGS

• Civitans. Athens Ladies Civitans’ monthly meeting will be held at noon Tuesday at the Limestone County Water Authority penthouse on South Jefferson Street. Michelle Dugger of Dugger’s Florist on U.S. 72 will speak. Guests are invited. Contact: 256-232-2865.

• Soil and Water. The Limestone County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at 306 BBQ, 23101 U.S. 72 East in Athens. The public is invited.

• Tea Party Patriots. The Athens/Limestone Tea Party Patriots will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at 100 Beaty St. Public is invited. Contact: 256-777-2526.

    Crape Myrtle pageant

    The 14th annual Miss/Master Crape Myrtle Festival Pageant is Saturday at the Ardmore, Tennessee Annex Building. Competition begins at 1 p.m. for girls, infant through age 19, and boys, infant through age 5. More information: 256-278-5524.

    The Athens Arts League Summer Art Stroll is 4-8 p.m. Friday on the downtown Limestone County Courthouse lawn. The free, family-friendly event will include music and 25 artists including painters, ceramicists, jewelry makers, mixed media and textile artists.

    The annual CASA Mud Volleyball Tournament begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Athens Swan Creek Park on U.S 31. Registration is full. Spectators are welcome to bring lawn chairs and set up tents.
