Sam Gibbons horse show

The third annual Sam Gibbons Memorial Walking Horse Show set for 5 p.m. Saturday at the Sheriff's Rodeo Arena off Alabama 99 is rescheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at the same location. Flag disposal ceremony

A “dignified disposal of unserviceable American flags ceremony” will be 6 p.m. today at American Legion Post 49, 124 Cloverleaf Drive in Athens. The public is invited. Citizens may bring unserviceable American flags to the Post that evening for proper disposal at a later date. More information: Joe Johnson 256-233-5256.

TUESDAY

Chicken stew

The American Legion Post 49 monthly chicken stew will be held 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday. Cost is $5 with one dessert to eat in or for per quart carryouts or delivery. Containers provided. No sides with carryouts. Free delivery to offices or job sites within Athens city limits. More information or to reserve carryouts: 256-230-6233.

Spaghetti dinner fundraiser

Vietnam Veterans of America, chapter 511, will hold an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner scholarship fundraiser from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the VVA building, 17915 W. Elm St. The $7 meal includes spaghetti, garlic toast, salad, dessert and drink. Take out or eat in. 2014 scholarship winners are Micah Still of Lindsay Lane Christian Academy and Kelsey Maclin of Athens High School. More information: 256-206-5399.

Ardmore library reading program

The Ardmore Public Library summer reading program “Fizz, Boom, Read!” is 10 a.m. Wednesday at 25836 Main Street in Ardmore, Tennessee. For ages 11 and under. The program features music by Zig S. Wajler. More programs will be held June 25, and July 2 and 9.

Singing on Square

Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association will present a free Singing on the Square Concert at 6 p.m. Friday, June 20, featuring Matt Prater and The Hired Guns. Use of lawn chairs encouraged. Giveaways include a folding bag chair. Sponsored by Champion Chevrolet.
