Preparing resume class

A free class designed to help in preparing a resume will be held from 4-6 p.m. today at Ardmore Public Library. The class includes tips on job hunting, how to submit online applications and preparing for a job interview. Call the library for more information at 931-427-4883.

Coffee Call

The Alabama Veterans Museum & Archives Coffee Call is 8-9 a.m. Saturday at 100 W. Pryor St. Hobbs Jewelers and Friends of the Museum are sponsors.

Chili dinner fundraiser

Athens-Limestone Rescue Squad will hold a chili dinner from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at 1401 Freeman Ave. Eat in or carryouts are $3 a bowl, $10 a quart and $30 a gallon. Bring your own containers. Pre-orders: Call Mike at 256-431-7734 on Friday, Jan. 31.

Used book sale

Friends of Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the library, 405 E. South St. More information: 256-232-1233.

Boy Scout chicken stew

The Boy Scout Troop 221 annual goat/chicken stew is at 11 a.m. Saturday at West Limestone Volunteer Fire Department. Containers provided.

Turkey, ham, prize shoot

The Vietnam Veterans of American chapter 511 will hold a turkey, ham and prize shoot from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at 17915 W. Elm Street and Lucas Ferry Street. Creation vs. evolution debate

Alabama tax forms

Alabama income tax forms are available at Houston Memorial Library at 101 N. Houston St. Hours are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Income tax preparation

Athens-Limestone County RSVP is providing free income tax preparation and electronic filing for taxpayers unable to pay to file their taxes. The service will be offered at Athens First Baptist Church Youth Activity Center from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Feb. 3 through April 14 on Mondays and Thursdays and 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Feb. 4-25 on Tuesdays. Bring last year’s tax returns, W-2 forms, Social Security numbers for each person claimed and 1099 forms. No appointment necessary. More information: RSVP office 256-232-7207.

IDs for age 55 and older

Anyone age 55 and older in need of a photo ID to cast your ballot in upcoming elections can call Emily Sandlin, 256-216-3906, at the Council on Aging before Jan. 30 to receive information on how to obtain one.

Tina Hogan Memorial Fund

Athens-Limestone Hospital has established the Tina Hogan Memorial Fund at First National Bank for anyone wishing to make a donation. This fund is designated for the benefit of Tina’s children, Madison, 21, and Cole, 13. Donations may be made at any First National Bank location: U.S. 72 and Lindsay Lane, the Ardmore location or the new location on Jefferson Street. Tina Hogan, who was a longtime employee in the Quality Management Department at Athens-Limestone Hospital, was killed in a car wreck Jan. 8.

AARP safe driving course

AARP-eligible residents interested in a safe driving course are asked to call Emily Sandlin, Council on Aging, at 256-216-3906 to put your name on the call list once a date is set. Cost will be $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. Class will be one 6-hour day or two 3-hour days based on interest.

MEETINGS

• NRC. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has scheduled a public meeting Thursday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. in the second floor conference room of the Clinton Street courthouse annex, 100 S. Clinton St., in Athens. Actions the Tennessee Valley Authority has committed to take to ensure continued improvement of the Browns Ferry plant will be discussed. Questions will be taken.

• Tea party. The Athens/Limestone Tea Party Patriots will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at 100 Beaty St. All are welcome. More information: Tony 256-232-9051 or 256-777-2526.

• MADD. Mothers Against Drunk Driving will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2. Anyone interested in keeping streets free of the dangers of intoxicated drivers is invited. Location information: Glenda Richardson 256-233-6189.
