Used book sale

Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. today at the library, 405 E. South St. More information: 256-232-1233.

North Border breakfast

North Border Lodge on Salemfield Lane will have a communitywide breakfast from 7-9 a.m. today. The public is invited. More information: Mickey Robertson: 256-232-2335.

VVA shoot

Vietnam Veterans of America Gary Elmore Chapter 511 turkey,ham and prize shoot will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today at the post at 17915 W. Elm St. Shotguns only; chapter will provide ammo at  $4 per shot. Funds are used to assist veterans.

Coffee Call

The Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives Coffee Call is 8-9 a.m. today at 100 W. Pryor St. Collins Supply Inc. is the sponsor. Contact: Steve Hornberger 256-771-7578.

Place flags on veterans graves

A meeting for anyone interested in helping place flags on the graves of area veterans on Memorial Day will be held at 8 a.m. today during Coffee Call at the Alabama Veterans Museum, 100 W. Flag raising ceremony

There will be a flag raising ceremony at the grave of PFC Gary Lewis Elmore at 10 a.m.  today in Roselawn Cemetery. Elmore was the first soldier from Limestone County killed in action in Vietnam. MONDAY

Jewelry sale

Athens-Limestone Hospital Auxiliary is sponsoring a Masquerade Jewelry sale Monday and Tuesday in the Hospital Education Department to benefit its scholarship fund. Monday's time is 7 a.m.-6 p.m.; Tuesday, 7 a.m.-4 p.m.

Veterans employment workshop

Area veterans can learn how to apply for federal and state jobs at workshops held the first Monday of each month. Next scheduled workshops are at 1:30 p.m. on May 5, June 2 and July 7 at Decatur Alabama Career Center. Space is limited. Call 256-355-0142 to reserve a seat.
