Spaghetti dinner fundraiser


Vietnam Veterans of America, chapter 511, will hold an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner scholarship fundraiser from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the VVA building, 17915 W. Elm St. The $7 meal includes spaghetti, garlic toast, salad, dessert and drink. Take out or eat in. 2014 scholarship winners are Micah Still of Lindsay Lane Christian Academy and Kelsey Maclin of Athens High School. More information: 256-206-5399.

Ardmore library reading program


The Ardmore Public Library summer reading program “Fizz, Boom, Read!” is 10 a.m. Wednesday at 25836 Main Street in Ardmore, Tennessee. For ages 11 and under. The program features music by Zig S. Wajler. More programs will be held June 25, and July 2 and 9.

FRIDAY

Ardmore Tractor Pull


The Ardmore Lions Club will host a tractor pull Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. each night in John Barnes Park in Ardmore, Tenn. Ardmore Veterans will provide concessions. Admission is $12 at the gate.

Elkmont barbecue cook-off

The Elkmont Lions Club Smokin' Railroad St. Barbeque Cook-off is Friday and Saturday. Backyard Division setup is noon Friday. Music starts at 6 p.m. Vendors open 8 a.m. Saturday. People's Choice $1 tickets on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. Tastings begin at 11. Concessions available on Saturday. More information: www.elkmontlionsclub.com.

Swamp John's dinner

Limestone Firefighters Honor Guard will hold a Swamp John's dinner from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Limestone Sheriff's Arena on Alabama 99. A $10 plate includes fish, chicken, shrimp (or combo), hush puppies, French fries, slaw tea and dessert. More information: 256-655-9196.

Singing on Square

Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association will present a free Singing on the Square Concert at 6 p.m. Friday, June 20, featuring Matt Prater and The Hired Guns. Use of lawn chairs encouraged. Giveaways include a folding bag-chair. Sponsored by Champion Chevrolet.

Food Giveaway


Two pounds of pinto beans and 3 pounds of rice will be given away to anyone in need and while supplies last, from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 207 E. Washington St. in Athens. No questions asked, no names taken.
