Usery benefit

A softball tournament benefit to help cover burial expenses for Melissa Usery will begin between 8 and 9 a.m. today at Owens ballfield. Entry fee is $150 per team and can include five men/five women per team. Chicken plates will be available at 11 a.m. that include sides and drink. Hot dogs/hamburgers also available. Dr. Magical Balloons

Athens-Limestone Public Library will host Dr. Magical Balloons at 2 p.m. today. Dr. Balloons will tell stories with balloon animal characters. The free event is for all ages. More information: 256-232-1233.

Craig reunion

Descendants of Monroe and Adaline Craig will meet at noon today for a reunion at the Owens Senior Center on Alabama 99.

Ezell reunion

The Ezell family reunion is 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. today at Joe Wheeler State Park, Shelter No. 3. No cost involved. Contact: Tom Dawes 256-998-7370.


Donnell to host planner

The Donnell House Board of Directors will host Athens City Planner Mac Martin at 2 p.m. Sunday. Martin will speak on “Concept for the Future of Athens Middle School Campus.” The public is invited.


Yellow Dot Day

Individuals and families can sign up for the Yellow Dot Program in person 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday at the Department of Human Resources on West Market Street across from the post office. The program assists citizens following automobile accidents when they can't communicate for themselves. More information: Jennifer White 256-216-6411.

Blood drive

A Life South blood drive will be held 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday at the DHR office on West Market Street. Each donor will receive a T-shirt. Appointments: Jennifer White 256-216-6411. 


Kiddie Carnival

Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnival at 309 E. Forrest St. is open 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through Aug. 2 (closed July 4) with 10 rides for young children, bingo and concessions including funnel cakes and cotton candy.
